Facebook users will be able to claim “Vanity URLs” to customize the Web addresses profiles starting at midnight Eastern on Saturday, according to a post on the Facebook blog. Currently, users’ profiles URLs have been structured as a string of numbers – as seen here:

Twitter, Brand Management, and the New Social Search
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009Yesterday, in a post on my personal blog, I called Twitter a “Real Time Capable Social Search Engine.” Little did I know that elsewhere on the web, Lew Moorman was proposing Twitter as Google’s first real threat to search dominance. I am not prepared to go that far. However, I am absolutely in agreement that Twitter will be used increasingly as a search engine by its users, and is certainly poised to play a major role as social search matures.
