How Is Your Web Site Represented in Search Engine Results Pages?
When searching for your Web site, you want to see your Web site listing in the SERPs (search engine results pages) to be the representation of your company/site. For instance, you want the title and the snippet to include the information about your site/page and a marketing statement that will generate clicks. This can be done by optimizing your title tag and meta description tag. But what about sitelinks? Are these links showing up in the SERPs satisfactory?

Kudos and congratulations to Best Buy. Not only did they manage to vanquish Circuit City, but they also take the award for the “First Company to Air a Television Commercial Displaying a Twitter URL the Entire Time.” It’s a coveted award, I know, but why is it important?

Facebook users will be able to claim “Vanity URLs” to customize the Web addresses profiles starting at midnight Eastern on Saturday, according to a post on the Facebook blog. Currently, users’ profiles URLs have been structured as a string of numbers – as seen here:

Google trademark policy in their AdWords ad-serving system is changing in a big way beginning in June. In a big turnaround from previous policy, Google will begin allowing advertisers to use trademarked terms within their paid search creative copywriting in many countries around the world. The previous Google Adwords policy was that if proper trademark paperwork was not filed with Google for a specific trademarked term, any advertiser could both bid on and/or use the trademarked term in their ad text.

Marketing on the Web is less about telling your customers what you want them to hear and more about giving them information they need. Brands who cannot embrace this concept will lose trust (and clicks) in the world of digital marketing. The keys to success here are in doing this now, doing it well, and doing it honestly.

Yesterday, in a post on my personal blog, I called Twitter a “Real Time Capable Social Search Engine.” Little did I know that elsewhere on the web, Lew Moorman was proposing Twitter as Google’s first real threat to search dominance. I am not prepared to go that far. However, I am absolutely in agreement that Twitter will be used increasingly as a search engine by its users, and is certainly poised to play a major role as social search matures.
